Dieting

Decided to go on a diet after a long year of sloppy eating habits. Actually, it was half a year of sloppy eating habits, although no where nearly as bad as my younger brother's diet. He'll get and throw a stack of chocolate chip cookies in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds, grab a glass of milk and call it breakfast. Don't get me wrong, his decadent breakfast diet sounds delicious, but it equally irresponsible. The only thing that makes up for it however is that he is an extremely active varsity football player at his high school. Me on the other hand, I can eat a Big Mac and find a Big Mac-shaped jelly roll around my waste the next day.

Anyway, I went on a diet two summers ago with the South Beach Diet. It is really the best dieting fad I've ever seen (clearly biased, especially since I've tried no other dieting fad). According to the book the SBD is a lifestyle versus a dieting fad that only addresses the symptoms (over eating). SBD teaches you what to look for in foods and how to properly mix them throughout the day and the week healthily. In all three phases of the diet, however, you do reduce less carbohydrate intake. Sorry, no McD's, BKing, DunkinD's, or anything breaded made with fine pre-processed flour and sugar. If you do eat a breaded product you will find the SBD will have cultivated a desire for things high in fiber and low in sugar. It's all about the glycemic index. When I want to be bad, I at least go in knowing that what I'm about to stuff down my pie whole is a good tasty treat. Then afterward I know just how to get rid of it.
